History

History of Super Bowl Sunday at Casa de Martinez

In January of 2000, the Connor, Lincoln, Murillo and Stone families all came to Casa de Martinez to spend the afternoon together and watch the St. Louis Rams defeat the Tennessee Titans 23-16 in Super Bowl XXXIV and thus was the beginning of what we share and enjoy as Super Bowl Sunday as Casa de Martinez.

Over the years the invite list has expanded and so has the crowd.  What began as ten adults, with their kids, now regularly exceeds 80 people.   Family and friends have traveled from San Diego, Northern Cal, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Montana and beyond to enjoy the holiday.  It is not really about the game itself, although some are truly interested in the game.   And it is also not about the food, prizes, magic squares, side bets, group photos, half-time or the tequila shots, although in the end, all of those things do influence a good time.  When we get down to it, its about good friends and family enjoying another holiday together.

In 2019 we hosted the 20th Annual Super Bowl Sunday as Casa de Martinez and guests were determined to enjoy the day and JoJo’s Grill-A-Dog food truck, despite the pouring rain.  We had to skip a few due to the pandemic but we look forward to being back in person for Super Bowl Sunday at Casa de Martinez!
